If you’ve ever dreamed of getting married in a literal castle in Scotland… this is your sign.
Kaleigh and Devon’s early October wedding at Kinmount House was romantic, high-energy, lighthearted, and somehow both incredibly elegant and wildly fun all at once. Think: overcast Scottish skies, bagpipes echoing through the grounds, heartfelt vows in a glass-lined ceremony, and a dance floor that absolutely did not quit.
And they even trusted me enough to bring me all the way from Ontario to Scotland to photograph it. How did I get here?
Kaleigh and Devon completely fell in love with Kinmount House. Once you see it, you understand why. The estate has everything on site: stunning architecture, sprawling grounds, cozy accommodations for guests, and thoughtful add-ons that make the experience feel immersive and seamless.
With just 50 of their closest people attending (all traveling in for the celebration), it felt intimate in the best way. A true destination wedding where everyone is in for the experience.
They both got ready inside the castle. The boys spent the morning playing snooker while getting dressed. Devon kept it classic in a black suit and bowtie, looking sharp but totally relaxed.
Kaleigh, on the other hand, had a clear vision for the entire day. She’s organized, intentional, and knows exactly what she wants, and seeing that vision come to life inside Kinmount was so fun to witness. Before the ceremony, they exchanged letters and gifts. Both were emotional. Both cried. And both gave each other photo keepsakes. Devon gifted Kaleigh a bracelet with photos inside, and Kaleigh gave Devon a pin with photos tucked in.
Guests were guided into the ceremony by a bagpiper, which immediately set the tone.
The ceremony took place inside the Orangery, a small glass-surrounded room filled with soft, moody October light. Overcast skies outside (very Scotland), pockets of brightness drifting through the windows, it was romantic without even trying.
A family friend, Caroline, officiated the ceremony, which made it feel deeply personal. They exchanged heartfelt vows and incorporated a knot-tying ceremony, symbolizing their lives coming together.
After the ceremony, we explored the Kinmount grounds with the coordinator, who drove us around in the most elite golf cart setup I’ve ever seen. Pillows. Blankets. Keeping the bride and groom cozy between stops.
We visited the old bathhouse overlooking the pond and the castle (which might have been my favourite portrait location of the entire day), and even stopped at a swing in front of the castle.
They didn’t do a traditional first look before the ceremony but later in the day, Kaleigh changed into her reception dress (a fitted gown covered in lace and beadwork) and they did a first look before dinner.
The contrast between her ceremony gown and reception dress was stunning. Elegant and timeless earlier in the day, then form-fitting and detailed for the evening. Two completely different vibes, both so her.
The reception space was unreal, a white draped ceiling with embedded twinkle lights that looked like stars. It felt cozy and grand at the same time.
The speeches were heartfelt and full of love. The groom’s parents created a slideshow that had everyone emotional in the best way.
And then… the dance floor.
When I say bumpin’, I mean bumpin’. Ties went on heads. Foam light-up sticks came out. Everyone was fully committed. It was classy until it wasn’t, and that’s the exact energy I live for.
To end the night, they had a fireworks display as their send-off.
Kinmount House truly covers everything. On-site accommodations. Stunning ceremony and reception spaces. Endless portrait locations. Unique add-ons (bagpipers, fireworks).
It creates an experience, not just a wedding day.
For couples planning a destination wedding in Scotland, it’s such an incredible option, especially if you want something intimate, immersive, and unforgettable.
One of the things I loved most about this wedding was how much trust Kaleigh and Devon placed in me. Bringing your photographer overseas is not a small decision, and I felt so appreciated the entire time.
The energy of this wedding felt different from Ontario weddings in a way that’s hard to describe. Elevated but relaxed. Upscale but wildly fun. So rooted in place. So Scotland.
I stayed in Scotland before the wedding, soaking it all in, and then traveled to Ireland after, which somehow made the whole experience even more surreal.
If you're planning a destination wedding in Scotland, or anywhere else in Europe and looking for a photographer to match your energy.
I’m in. Passport ready.
If Kinmount House (or anywhere in Europe) is calling your name, let’s make it happen.
